Equality Statement and Equality Objectives

Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School

At Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School we are committed to:

  • promoting equality of opportunity
  • eliminating discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • valuing diversity and promoting positive relationships
  • providing an inclusive education which enables all pupils to develop their full potential
  • meeting and exceeding the requirements of the Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty

The Equality Act 2010 replaces previous anti‑discrimination legislation with a single Act. The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) is set out in Section 149 of the Act and applies to all schools.

It requires us, in the exercise of our functions, to have due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

The Equality Act protects people from discrimination based on the following protected characteristics:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership (in respect of eliminating unlawful discrimination only)
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School integrates consideration of equality into policy development, strategic planning, decision‑making and day‑to‑day practice.

Equality Information (Statutory Duty)

In line with the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties), Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School publishes equality information to demonstrate compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty.

This information is reviewed annually and may include, where proportionate and appropriate:

  • pupil attainment and progress data
  • behaviour and suspension data
  • attendance data
  • information relating to pupils with disabilities and special educational needs
  • information relating to pupils eligible for Pupil Premium
  • workforce information, where relevant

This information is used to identify trends, address inequality, inform school improvement planning, and shape our equality objectives and targeted interventions.

School Policies

The school’s policies, including the Equality Policy, support our commitment to equality and inclusion.

The Governing Body ensures that, as part of the policy review cycle, policies and practices are scrutinised to consider their impact on individuals and groups in relation to equality.

Aims of the School

We aim to:

  • inspire an enthusiasm for learning
  • make a difference to the lives of all learners
