In Autumn 2 we learned how to tell the difference between what is real and fake online. In particular we looked at scams, phishing and clickbait. As scammers become ever more sophisticated in how they design fake texts, emails and adverts children carefully studied them to look for signs of a scam. They became scam spotters!
If you need help identifying an email or text that may be phishing for your data, just ask our Year 5 and 6 experts! They know to look for the secure padlock sign, strange web address links possibly hidden with QR codes or web address shorteners. They realised that just because an email or advert had a company’s official logo didn’t mean it was definitely from them. They know to watch out for spelling or grammar errors as well as time pressures that make people click without thinking, such as limited time offer. And they know if something sounds too good to be true…it usually is! They used what they learnt about scam tricks to design their own. Here are a few examples.
