At Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School, we are committed to being a fully inclusive school where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential academically, socially, emotionally and personally. We believe that all children should have access to an ambitious curriculum and meaningful opportunities, regardless of their gender, background, language, ability, disability, religion or additional needs.
We recognise that children learn in different ways and may require different levels of support at different times. Through adaptive teaching, strong relationships and a graduated approach to SEND support, we aim to remove barriers to learning and help every child feel successful, included and confident within school life.
Every class has access to skilled teaching assistant support, with staff trained to deliver a wide range of interventions and strategies to meet pupils’ individual needs. Staff receive regular training in areas such as adaptive teaching, scaffolding, speech and language, SEMH, restorative practice and neurodiversity to ensure children receive high-quality support within the classroom.
Children who require emotional or pastoral support can access our Heart Room provision. This nurturing space provides support for social, emotional and mental health needs through restorative approaches, nurture groups, friendship groups, mindfulness, emotional regulation support and one-to-one intervention.
We also have our Nest provision for children who require more focused support with cognition and learning needs. The Nest is delivered by a qualified teacher alongside experienced teaching assistants in a small-group environment. Teaching is highly personalised and focuses on building confidence, independence and strong foundational knowledge in literacy and maths. The provision is flexible and responsive to individual needs, with many children accessing a combination of Nest and mainstream classroom learning throughout the day.
Children with SEND are fully included in all aspects of school life, including trips, clubs, enrichment activities and wider curriculum experiences. We celebrate every child’s strengths, achievements and talents and work closely with families and outside agencies to ensure children receive the support they need.
Our SEND Information Report and policies can be found on the policies section of the website. These pages are designed to provide families with information about the support available within school, alongside useful guidance and external services.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s needs further, please contact Mrs Bleasdale (SENDCo) through the school office on 01772 792083.
