| Transition to year 3 |
At Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School, we work closely with Ribbleton Avenue Infant School and other feeder schools to ensure that all children experience a smooth and positive transition into Key Stage 2.
Our transition process begins well before children start with us and includes close communication between teachers, SENDCos and support staff to ensure we fully understand each child’s strengths, needs and any support already in place.
Transition support includes:
- Visits to the junior school for Year 2 pupils
- Transition meetings between Year 2 and Year 3 teachers
- SENDCo meetings to discuss pupils with additional needs
- Collection of information from infant schools, including SEND records, reports and support plans
- Parent/carer information sharing and opportunities to discuss concerns or support needs
- Whole-school transition day opportunities
- Year 2 pupils invited to watch the Year 6 End of Year Leavers’ Performance to help familiarise them with the junior school environment and build excitement about moving up
- Additional transition visits for pupils who may require extra support, including pupils with SEND, SEMH needs or anxiety around change
- Individualised transition plans where appropriate
- Opportunities for children to meet key staff and explore important areas of the school
- Transfer of SEND records and safeguarding information to ensure support is in place from the start of Year 3
For some children with SEND, transition support may include:
- Smaller group visits
- Visual transition booklets
- Social stories
- Meet and greet sessions
- Additional classroom visits
- Gradual transition arrangements
- Parent meetings with the SENDCo or pastoral staff
Our aim is to ensure that children feel safe, supported and confident when joining our school.
