We will begin the year by revisiting and consolidating key learning from Year 4. This will allow us to identify and address any gaps, ensuring that every child has secure foundations for their Year 5 mathematics.

We will then begin our Year 5 place value unit. Children will learn to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 1,000,000, as well as develop their skills in rounding and working with powers of 10.

A secure recall of multiplication and division facts is essential for success in many areas of Year 5 maths. We encourage children to practise regularly at home using Times Tables Rock Stars and Prodigy Maths. Short, frequent practice sessions can make a significant difference to children’s fluency, confidence and enjoyment of mathematics.
