Homework
Homework will be given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. Each child will receive paper copies of their homework along with a folder to keep everything safe and organised. Please make sure your child brings their folder back to school with their completed homework so we can add the new tasks for the following week.
Spellings
Each week, your child will be given a set of spellings to practise at home as part of their homework. These will be handed out on Fridays and the spelling test will take place the following Thursday. Regular practice really helps, so please encourage your child to go over them as often as possible.
Reading
Please make sure they bring their reading book to school every day. Children can change their home reading book any day during the week, but they’ll need to pop their book when they arrive in the morning. We ask that you read with your child at least three times each week and ask them questions to help build their understanding. Don’t forget to sign the reading record each time you read together—books can only be changed if the record is signed by an adult.
PE
Our PE day in 5R is Monday afternoon. Children are to come to school in their full PE kit and will remain in this for the full day. If your child wears earrings, please ensure they are removed before school on PE days for safety reasons.
Outdoor Education
Every other Thursday morning, your child will take part in an outdoor education session, as well as an additional PE lesson. On these days, children should come to school dressed in clothes suitable for outdoor activities—these can get muddy, so old clothes and weather-appropriate layers are best! Waterproof coats and wellies are essential in colder, wetter months. Please also send in a pair of trainers or school shoes for your child to change into afterwards.
