Welcome to 3R

Welcome to Year 3

Our Class Teacher is Mrs Pidcock and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Beetham. Our Curriculum Overview for the year has been added to this page, and we will shortly be adding our termly topic web. You can find our welcome to Year 3 powerpoint below, which will hopefully answer any questions that you may have.

We do understand that the last-minute changes to our planned start of the year may have been unsettling due to our unplanned building repairs. We assure you that we are settling the children into school life as we would before, but appreciate that changes in classrooms, buildings, and staff have meant that the start of the year has been challenging, and we are grateful for your support and patience with this. Due to the size of the rooms  that are available to us in the Hub building, we have split the classes into three. Therefore, some of our 3R children are currently working in the next room with a group of 3M children (3RM). The children that work in this group may change at times in order for us to work fluidly as a unit, until we are able to move back into our classrooms in the main school building, where we will return to our original two classes.

If you need to have a quick word with a member of staff, please see them at school pick up, at the end of the day, or speak with a member of staff at the office, in the main building, at drop off, in a morning. Anything that may require a longer conversation should take place in a pre-arranged meeting. Please contact the school office to make an appointment.

Homework

The children will be set homework on a Friday which is to be handed in by the following Wednesday. All children will be given paper copies of homework and will be provided with a folder to keep them in. Please make sure that your child returns their homework in the folder so that the next week's homework can be placed inside to take home.

Spellings

The children will be given weekly spellings to practise at home. Please ensure that your child is practising them as often as possible. Children will write their spellings down in their spelling book (which will remain in school) and they will also write their spellings down in the back of their home reading record so that they can practise them at home. Spellings will be set on a Friday and the children will be tested on the following Friday.

Reading

Your child will be given a new reading record at the start of the academic year. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading record to school everyday. Children can change their home reading book on any day of the week. If your child needs to change their book, they must remember to place their reading book and reading record into the basket when they come into school in the morning. Please ensure that you are listening to your child read at least three times per week and that you are asking them questions about what they have read to help with their comprehension skills. Each time you listen to your child read, please sign their reading record. Books cannot be changed unless the reading record is signed by a parent / guardian.

PE

Our PE day in 3R is Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in school including suitable footwear so that they can participate in the lessons safely. If you child has their ears pierced, please ensure that they do not come to school with earrings in on the day that they have PE.

Outdoor Education

Your child will have outdoor education and an additional PE lesson every two weeks on a Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child comes to school suitably dressed in clothes that can get muddy / dirty and are suitable for the weather conditions (not school uniform). Even in wet / cold weather, the children will still be doing activities outside so will need warm, waterproof clothing as and when required. Children can bring wellies into school when they have outdoor education. Please also make that they bring another pair of shoes with them i.e. trainers that they can change into after their outdoor education lesson.
