Year 4 have computing on a Monday morning with Mrs Tipton. Online safety is taught discretely at the beginning of each half term and then woven into each topic. Below are the topics over the year, with examples of work added as the year progresses.
As part of their work with multimedia in Autumn 1, the children in Year 4 will create their very own e-books using book creator. Their books will include word art, talking avatars, volcano video factfiles, tours using google earth, green screen eruptions and hyperlinks!
During Autumn 2 the children are learning about computer programming. They will use microbits to code their own night lights, step counters, emotion badges, thermometers and rock, paper, scissors game. They will also code a program to create a magic 8 ball.
The makecode website allows them to use block coding to create their own programs, which they will flash to the microbits
Children will look at how to be internet secure during the spring term. The children will learn to identify and select secure passwords and explain why passwords are important. They will then create their own stop motion animations using lego and modelling clay.
During Spring 2, the children are learning about plastic pollution and using multimedia to spread awareness of this important issue.
We are making videos, posters and movie trailers to help save our oceans!
During Summer term 1 the children will look at programming in scratch. They will debug a water cycle program and then create their own sequenced code to create a working electrical circuit.

During Summer 2 children will extend their learning with the microbits, designing their own reaction games involving switches. They will need to sequence their code and use loops and selection to create their own programs, debugging errors as they go. They will use multimedia to create their own animal documentaries, incorporating narration, green screening and music
